Chelsea is in Year 4, her favourite colour is aqua and is one of our Southland Kids. Like many other students, she has transitioned to remote learning this school term. From reading books, missing friends and spending more time with family, we got her insight to what it is like to do school at home.

Most of the classes are put on google classrooms and that’s where they do the announcements, assignments and marking. We get given the work on there and then have to complete it, take a photo and send it in. Right now I am learning about multiplication and algorithms. My favourite class is writing and reading, and the last story I read was Mary Poppins.

Before we actually stopped going to school (physically), we practiced using google classrooms before the school shut down. The first time using it was kind of hard but not so much anymore. In the first two weeks they put a lot of work and we didn’t need to do all of it. I do most of the work by myself. I do physical activity with my dad.

I would prefer to go back to school. It’s easier.

I would prefer to go back to school. It’s easier. You can ask a lot of questions. You can’t really ask questions unless you ask a private comment (to the teachers). I miss my friends. We don’t see each other anymore but we can write class comments to talk to them. I also can’t really spend time with like grandma or grandpa or my aunties or my friends.

My immediate family is my dad, my mum, Axel and Jordan. I like staying at home, it’s fun. I’m with my family and it’s fun. Normally my dad's at work most of the time and I’m at school. For my birthday we played just dance and made an obstacle course. Tonight, we’re sleeping in a tent!

I like staying at home, it’s fun. I’m with my family and it’s fun.

I have done one zoom meeting with my Sunday School class. It was good, we talked about if you did the homework and played games. There’s different effects and activities you can do (on zoom). We did activities!

I think it has been fine and good that we still get to do school and all of our work and not miss out. Working from home is a great opportunity to spend time with family and also work with their help. You also get to go exercise like go on walks. Although we miss our friends, I’m glad we can face time and take calls. It has been fun and great learning from home. I love seeing my family and I am happy working from home. We thank the Lord for looking after us.
